Second Act Floral & Events

Second Act Floral & Events is the business and passion of Jenny McRae of Laurinburg, North Carolina. Offering floral arrangements and settings for weddings, family celebrations, and cooperate events along with many other occasions; Second Act is home to some of the highest quality floral products and services available in the Sandhills region.

Second Act 12

Mrs. McRae’s background includes over thirty years of work in the industry starting with a horticulture degree from North Carolina State University. While her perspective is organic she enjoys working in a variety of styles incorporating multiple elements such as glass, silver, metals, and wood. She looks to what nature has to offer when assembling a piece and often elects to cut from native flowers, bushes, and trees grown in her private gardens in lieu of purchasing these items from a dealer. This allows her to see the product immediately instead of ordering and then waiting to see the quality and condition of the available piece. As a college student Jenny was always getting in trouble for picking in the wrong places as she wandered into the beauty of private gardens or other off-limits areas.

Second Act 03

Recently Jenny and her husband Jim (whom she met at NCSU in the horticulture program) has been able to expand the business with the addition of a work space located directly next to their home. “The Studio” was completed in 2015 and is home to Jenny’s Second Act Floral & Events as well as Jim’s business McRae Shooting Sports. The additional of this space allows the McRaes; and Jenny particularly, the ability to separate work and home. In years past it was not uncommon for the family dinner to take place surrounded by the flowers and greens that were being transformed into a client’s wedding decor. As she affectionately says, “It was time to have dinner without flowers in the stew.”

Second Act 14

As the The Studio took shape over the past year so did more dreams and aspirations. It is Jenny’s hope that The Studio will one day become available as a rental venue for small groups of less than fifty. Plans to add additional cutting gardens would also enable Jenny to offer for sale flowers, herbs, and plants grown there on the grounds. There are also plans to offer Market Days that make available a variety of goods from all the businesses associated with the McRae family including The Pony Draw.

Second Act 13

When asked about the name Second Act, Jenny explained how she viewed the building of a home and family; which included raising her two children Neal and Martha, as the first portion of her life. Now that the children are grown and pursing their own talents it was time to rededicate herself to her own passions and pursuits in her “second act”.

Second Act 11

Jenny’s work can be seen throughout the Sandhills region at weddings and events year round. The amazing floral arrangements at our wedding in September of 2014 were all pieces from Jenny’s craft. Jenny is also a regularly seen vendor at the Sandhills Children’s Center Festival of Trees where her work is available during their online auction to benefit the Center’s programs for special needs children in the region. This past year she donated a full-size Christmas tree decorated in the theme of American Shooting Sports as well as a coordinating Christmas wreath.

Second Act 15

Jenny’s work is truly breath-taking and we are blessed to have her among our local business owners. Quality products, friendly service, and a belief in God’s guidance are all part of what makes Second Act Floral & Events a valued part of our community. If you are in the area, please support Jenny and other private business owners like her. If you live in another community afar please work hard to find a locally owned and operated business in your area. Your business not only supports that individual, but it supports your community as a whole making it a better place to live.

Happy homesteading and God bless!
